Saint-Savin sur Gartempe

Saint-Savin is situated in the neighbourhood of Poitiers, at about 700 km from Malle.

It is our oldest twinning partner (1960). It is a village and municipality in the Department of the Vienne belonging to the canton of Saint-Savin, which consists of several small municipalities.

The most famous building in Saint-Savin is the Roman church, which has been  on the World Heritage list of UNESCO since 1983. It is the oldest hallchurch in the region of the Poitou. It was built between 1095 and 1115. Its murals are world-famous.

Saint-Savin is a typical French village with a large square where pétanque is played and many terraces invite to have a quiet drink. The Gartempe river crosses the village on its way to Saint-Germain. Angle-surAnglin, with its old castle ruins, is a favourite haunting place for tourists. Saint-Savin is surrounded by greenery. Walking and biking (if one manages a few hills) are real musts.
